Drugs acting on the digestive tract or the body's metabolic processes, following ATC Group A (Alimentary Tract and Metabolism) of the WHO Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System. Belongs here: an agent that regulates blood glucose, corrects a hormonal deficiency governing metabolism, or suppresses gastric acid secretion, such as an antidiabetic drug, a replacement hormone for a metabolic deficiency, or a proton-pump inhibitor. Does not belong here: an agent whose primary systemic target is a single other organ system with its own group, such as a drug acting mainly on the cardiovascular system, grouped under cardiovascular system agents.
