Fruquintinib

Fruquintinib, sold under the brand name Fruzaqla, is an anti-cancer medication used to treat metastatic colorectal cancer. It works as a kinase inhibitor that selectively blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1, 2 and 3, proteins that tumors rely on to grow new blood vessels. It is indicated for adults with metastatic colorectal cancer who have already been treated with prior chemotherapy, an anti-VEGF therapy and, if appropriate, an anti-EGFR therapy. Common side effects include high blood pressure, hand-foot skin reactions, protein in the urine, voice changes, abdominal pain, diarrhea and fatigue. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved fruquintinib in November 2023, and the European Union approved it in June 2024.
