Teserpaturev, sold under the brand name Delytact, is an oncolytic virus therapy used to treat malignant glioma. It consists of a genetically engineered herpes simplex virus type 1, injected directly into a brain tumor, that is designed to replicate selectively inside cancer cells and destroy them while also provoking an immune response against the tumor. It is indicated for residual or recurrent glioblastoma, an aggressive and difficult to treat brain cancer, and is typically injected into the tumor up to six times. In a phase II trial, patients treated with teserpaturev had a one-year survival rate of 84.2 percent and a median overall survival of 20.2 months. Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved it in June 2021, the first gene therapy product approved anywhere for malignant glioma. It is marketed in Japan by Daiichi Sankyo Company.
