All Biomedical Research Institutes

Institutions whose primary function is biomedical research rather than patient care or degree-granting education, including government research agencies. Belongs here: dedicated research institutes and laboratories such as the Pasteur Institute, the Wellcome Sanger Institute or the National Institutes of Health. Does not belong here: a research institute organized specifically around cancer, grouped under cancer research and treatment centers because that focus and its frequent combination with direct patient treatment sets it apart, or a university medical school whose research is one part of a broader teaching mission.
