Scripps Research is a nonprofit American medical research institute focused on research and education in the biomedical sciences, headquartered on a thirty five acre campus in the La Jolla area of San Diego, California. It operates more than one hundred and seventy laboratories staffed by roughly two thousand one hundred scientists, technicians, graduate students, and support staff, and holds more than one thousand one hundred patents while having produced eleven FDA approved therapeutic drugs and more than fifty spin off companies. Its graduate program ranks first nationally in the biological sciences, and a 2017 citation impact ranking placed the institute as the most influential research institution in the world. A former Florida campus in Jupiter became part of the University of Florida in 2022, though its graduate students remain enrolled in Scripps Research's own doctoral program.
