The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a comprehensive cancer centre and autonomous university within the University of Texas System, situated in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, described as the largest medical center and life sciences destination in the world. It is both a degree granting academic institution and a cancer treatment and research center, one of the original three National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country, and by the early 2020s hosted the highest number of cancer clinical trials of any institution in the world while receiving more NCI funded projects than any other American institute, investing more than a billion dollars in research in fiscal year 2023 alone. It has repeatedly been ranked the top hospital in the United States for cancer care by U.S. News and World Report, a streak spanning roughly a decade, and Newsweek separately ranked it first in the world among specialized oncology hospitals.
