Complementary and manual therapies covers hands-on bodywork techniques and complementary or alternative treatments used alongside or instead of mainstream medical care. It includes manual techniques such as massage, myofascial release, dry needling, spinal and joint manipulation and mobilization, manual lymphatic drainage and Rolfing; mind-body and relaxation techniques such as biofeedback, neurofeedback, autogenic training, guided imagery and mindfulness-based stress reduction; and other complementary practices such as halotherapy, speleotherapy, isolation tank use and dietary approaches such as the alkaline diet. It does not include established psychotherapy modalities taught within clinical psychology and psychiatry, grouped under Psychotherapy and Behavioral Therapy, or exercise-based physical rehabilitation delivered as mainstream physical therapy, grouped under Physical Rehabilitation Therapy.
