Manual therapy, also called manipulative therapy, is a treatment used mainly by physical therapists, occupational therapists, and massage therapists to address musculoskeletal pain and disability. It centers on kneading and manipulation of muscles along with joint mobilization and joint manipulation. Physical therapists are not the only practitioners who use the technique; Rolfers, athletic trainers, osteopaths, and physicians apply it as well.
