Fetal growth restriction, also called intrauterine growth restriction, is the poor growth of a fetus in the womb during pregnancy. It is defined by clinical features of malnutrition and evidence of reduced growth regardless of the infant's eventual birth weight percentile. Its causes are broad and may involve maternal, fetal, or placental complications.
