Adenosine deaminase deficiency, often shortened to ADA deficiency, is a metabolic disorder that causes immunodeficiency. It is caused by mutations in the ADA gene and accounts for roughly ten to twenty percent of the autosomal recessive forms of severe combined immunodeficiency, once disorders related to inbreeding are excluded. According to the Wikipedia lead it can first appear in infancy, childhood, adolescence or adulthood, and the age of onset and the severity are related to some twenty nine known genotypes associated with the disorder. It occurs in fewer than one in one hundred thousand live births worldwide. This entry records what the lead states and is not medical advice.
