Adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or adult ADHD, is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that persists into adulthood. As a neurodevelopmental disorder, it requires that impairing symptoms were present in childhood, with the exception of ADHD arising after a traumatic brain injury. It falls under psychiatry and clinical psychology, and is treated as a distinct clinical subject from general ADHD because of its different presentation, diagnostic history and treatment considerations in adult patients.
