Gougerot-Blum syndrome is a variant of pigmented purpuric dermatitis, a group of skin conditions marked by small, rust-colored to purplish, raised lichenoid spots that merge into larger discolored plaques. Compared with related pigmented purpuric dermatoses, it shows a distinct pattern of male predominance, itching, and a tendency to affect the legs, and under the microscope it shows a densely cellular lichenoid inflammatory infiltrate. It was first identified in 1925 and is named for the French dermatologists Henri Gougerot and Paul Blum, and it is classified among the pigmented purpuric dermatoses, a group of iron-pigment skin conditions.
