Body Dysmorphic Disorder

Mental and Behavioural Disorders

Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health condition characterized by a preoccupation with one or more perceived defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or appear only slight to others, accompanied by repetitive behaviors such as mirror checking, excessive grooming or reassurance seeking, or by mental acts such as comparing one's appearance with that of others. The preoccupation causes significant distress or impairment and is not better explained by an eating disorder, and it is classified in the DSM-5 among the obsessive-compulsive and related disorders.
