Cervicitis is inflammation of the uterine cervix. Many cases are caused by sexually transmitted infections, though non-infectious causes such as intrauterine devices and allergic reactions to spermicides or latex also trigger it. The condition affects over half of all women during their adult life and may progress to cause more serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease.
