Lymphangiomatosis

Neoplasms

Lymphangiomatosis is a rare condition in which a lymphangioma, an abnormal growth of the lymphatic system, is not confined to a single localized mass but instead appears in a widespread or multifocal manner across the body. It is thought to result from congenital errors in the development of the lymphatic system occurring before the twentieth week of gestation, although its exact underlying cause remains unknown. The condition is a multi-system disorder most commonly affecting the bones and lungs, with about seventy-five percent of cases involving multiple organs and up to seventy-five percent of patients experiencing bone involvement. It is marked by cysts arising from an increase in both the size and number of thin-walled lymphatic channels that are abnormally interconnected and dilated.
