IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger's disease, is a disease of the kidney and the immune system, specifically a form of glomerulonephritis, or inflammation of the glomeruli of the kidney. It is the most common glomerulonephritis worldwide, with a global incidence of about 2.5 per 100,000 adults per year, and is characterized by deposition of the IgA antibody in the glomerulus. The disease presents variably, from asymptomatic microscopic blood in the urine to rapid kidney failure, and affects men roughly three times more often than women.
