Disorganized schizophrenia was an obsolete subtype of schizophrenia, classified up to the DSM-IV and ICD-10 as a mental and behavioural disorder. It is no longer diagnosed as a separate condition in the DSM-5 or ICD-11, published in 2013 and 2022. The classification was thought to be an extreme expression of a disorganization syndrome, hypothesized as one aspect of a three-factor model of schizophrenia symptoms, alongside reality distortion, involving delusions and hallucinations, and psychomotor poverty, involving lack of speech, lack of spontaneous movement and blunting of emotion. The subtype was considered to carry a relatively poor prognosis.
