HIV/AIDS in Ghana describes how the human immunodeficiency virus and the disease it causes, AIDS, persist as a continuing public health problem in the country. The source gives an overall national HIV prevalence of 1.6 percent and estimates that about 355,000 people were living with HIV in 2022. New infections and AIDS-related deaths have both fallen each year since 2007, yet roughly 17,000 new infections and 9,000 deaths still occurred in 2022. Prevalence has historically been highest in the Eastern Region and lowest in the northern regions. In response the government set up the Ghana AIDS Commission, which coordinates non-governmental organizations, international bodies and other parties in supporting education about HIV and the treatment of AIDS across the country.
