Drug rehabilitation is the process of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for dependency on psychoactive substances, including alcohol, prescription medications and illicit drugs. Treatment can include medications for substance use disorders, counseling and behavioral therapies delivered by trained professionals, and participation in mutual support groups alongside others in recovery. Its goal is to help a person stop misusing the substance and avoid the psychological, legal, financial, social and medical harms that come with continued drug use.
