Fast Neutron Therapy

Oncologic Therapy

Fast neutron therapy is a form of radiation therapy that uses high-energy neutrons, typically between 50 and 70 MeV, to treat cancer. Most fast neutron therapy beams are produced by reactors, cyclotrons striking a beryllium target with a deuteron beam, or linear accelerators. Neutron therapy has been available in Germany, Russia, South Africa and the United States, where, as of the source consulted, a single operating treatment center in Seattle, Washington used a cyclotron producing a proton beam that strikes a beryllium target.
