Telephone counseling, also called telephone therapy or telephone-based or telephone-delivered psychological treatment, refers to the use of the telephone to deliver any type of psychological treatment or therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, for mental health difficulties like depression and anxiety. It can be as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy, and is, alongside online therapy, a type of telepsychology service; in telephone-based therapy, verbal communication takes place but, unlike in a video call, no non-verbal communication is available to either party.
