Nicomide

Dermatologicals

Nicomide is an acne medication that has been sold as a topical cream, a topical gel and a vitamin supplement. The prescription tablets contain nicotinamide, zinc, copper and folic acid, while the cream and gel are formulated as a 4 percent nicotinamide mixture. The source says dermatologists regard it as reducing inflammation of the skin and so reducing acne, and notes a clinical trial in which a 2 percent nicotinamide moisturiser reduced facial sebum production over four to six weeks. Nicotinamide is not recommended for acne in pregnant or nursing women. Nicomide was distributed by Sirius Laboratories, a subsidiary of DUSA Pharmaceuticals, which ceased distributing it in June 2008. Nothing here is medical advice.
