Banti's syndrome

Banti's syndrome, also known as Banti's disease, is a chronic congestive enlargement of the spleen that leads to premature destruction of red blood cells by the spleen. Named for the Italian pathologist Guido Banti, the condition is characterized by splenomegaly with congestion, in which the enlarged spleen removes red blood cells from circulation faster than normal. It is classified as a disorder of the lymphatic and hematologic systems and is studied within hematology. The premature red blood cell destruction it causes can contribute to anemia and related blood abnormalities in affected patients.
