Sjogren syndrome is a long-term autoimmune disease that primarily affects the body's exocrine glands, particularly those responsible for producing tears and saliva. Common symptoms include persistent dry mouth and dry eyes, and in a subset of affected people the disease also involves other organ systems, including the lungs, kidneys, and nervous system. It results from the immune system mistakenly attacking the body's own glandular tissue.
