Pulmonary Hypertension

Diseases of the Circulatory System

Pulmonary hypertension is a condition of increased blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fainting, tiredness, chest pain, swelling of the legs, and a fast heartbeat, and onset is typically gradual. Under the definition adopted at the 6th World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension in 2018, a patient is considered to have the condition if the mean pulmonary arterial pressure at rest exceeds 20 millimeters of mercury and pulmonary vascular resistance exceeds 3 Wood units.
