Lev's disease

Lev's disease, also known as Lenegre disease, is an idiopathic disease that can result in a complete heart block, meaning an extremely slowed heart rate, in patients who have it. For certain patients the impairment of the heart's electrical conduction system is thought to be due to fibrosis and calcification of the conduction cells. The disease is considered to be age related, with increasing decline seen in elderly patients. Electrocardiograms, especially those taken in non-specialized settings such as emergency rooms, may incidentally reveal a dysrhythmia that can confuse the diagnosis. Serial electrocardiograms, however, demonstrate an evolving conduction block arrhythmia characteristic of the disease, which allows a correct diagnosis to be made.
