Sonodynamic Therapy

Oncologic Therapy

Sonodynamic therapy is a noninvasive cancer treatment, often used for tumor irradiation, that combines a chemical sonosensitizer with the deep tissue penetration of ultrasound to treat lesions at varying depths by reducing the number of target cells and preventing further tumor growth. Because it produces cytotoxic effects only when externally triggered by ultrasound at the site of the tumor, rather than through the systemic administration used by chemotherapy drugs, it offers greater penetration depth and reduced side effects compared to many existing cancer treatments, and researchers are also exploring its use against other diseases such as atherosclerosis.

Quote, Treats: Atherosclerosis, Lead: treats Atherosclerosis
Sonodynamic therapy could be used to treat cancers and other diseases, such as atherosclerosis, and diminish the risk associated with other treatment strategies since it induces cytotoxic effects only when externally stimulated by ultrasound and only at the cancerous region, as opposed to the systemic administration of chemotherapy drugs.
