Dentin dysplasia

Diseases of the Digestive System

Dentin dysplasia is a rare genetic developmental disorder that affects the production of dentine in the teeth. It commonly shows autosomal dominant inheritance and causes malformation of the tooth roots. It affects both primary and permanent teeth in about one in every hundred thousand patients. The enamel is normal, but the dentin is atypical and the pulp has an abnormal form. In 1972 Witkop classified it into two types, type I, the radicular type, and type II, the coronal type. Type I has been further divided into four subtypes, 1a to 1d, on the basis of radiographic features. The record here describes the condition as medicine understands it and is not medical advice.
