Labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis is inflammation of the labyrinth, the maze of fluid-filled channels in the inner ear that houses the vestibular system responsible for sensing the head's position and motion. Inflammation of these structures produces vertigo and can also cause hearing loss or tinnitus. It may occur as a single attack, a series of attacks, or a persistent condition that eases over three to six weeks, and may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and nystagmus.
