Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Diseases of the Ear and Mastoid Process

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), sometimes called top shelf vertigo, is a disorder arising from a problem in the inner ear that produces repeated, brief episodes of vertigo brought on by changes in head position, such as turning over in bed. Each episode typically lasts less than a minute and is often accompanied by nausea. BPPV is one of the most common causes of vertigo.
