Ptosis, also known as blepharoptosis, is a drooping or falling of the upper eyelid. It is sometimes called lazy eye, though that term normally refers instead to amblyopia. If left untreated when severe, ptosis can cause other conditions such as amblyopia or astigmatism, making early treatment especially important in children before it interferes with the development of vision.
