Scleritis is a serious inflammatory disease that affects the sclera, the white outer coating of the eye. It is often associated with other diseases of the body, such as granulomatosis with polyangiitis or rheumatoid arthritis, and may be the first symptom of an underlying connective tissue disease. There are three types: diffuse scleritis, nodular scleritis, and necrotizing scleritis.
