Temporomandibular joint disorder is a spectrum of conditions involving pain and dysfunction in the muscles of chewing and the temporomandibular joints. Its major symptoms are pain, altered range of jaw movement, and noises from the joint during use. Although not life-threatening, it can significantly harm quality of life, particularly through chronic pain.
