Spondylosis is degeneration of the vertebral column from any cause; in its narrower and more common sense it refers to spinal osteoarthritis, the age-related degeneration of the spine. The degenerative process chiefly affects the vertebral bodies, the neural foramina, and the facet joints, and when severe it can press on the spinal cord or nerve roots, causing pain, numbness or tingling, imbalance, and muscle weakness in the limbs.
