Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx. Its primary symptom is loss of some vocal function, ranging from a hoarse voice to no voice at all, and it can be caused by overuse of the vocal cords or by other inflammation, trauma, or infection. The symptoms that accompany it depend on its underlying cause, and typically last under two weeks.
