Vagbhata

Vagbhata was a physician of classical Ayurvedic medicine, generally placed in the early medieval period, whose precise dates and regional origin remain debated by scholars. He is regarded, alongside Charaka and Sushruta, as one of the three great classical authorities of Ayurveda, and he is credited with systematizing their earlier teachings into the Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita and the related Ashtanga Sangraha, both organized around Ayurveda's eightfold division covering internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, rejuvenation, toxicology and other branches. His texts became especially influential in Kerala, where hereditary physician families continued to base their practice on his work into the modern era.
