Abraham Jacobi was a German physician, born in 1830, who died in 1919 and is remembered as a pioneer of paediatrics. He worked to improve child healthcare and welfare in the United States and opened the first children's clinic in that country. He helped found the American Journal of Obstetrics, and he remains the only foreign-born president of the American Medical Association. Because of his influence on the care of sick children, he is regarded as the Father of American Pediatrics. His career links the German medical training he received with the growth of a dedicated children's medicine in his adopted country.
