Friedrich Christoph Pelizaeus (1851 to 1942) was a German balneologist and neurologist from Rietberg. He earned his medical doctorate at Würzburg in 1874 and assisted Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Runge at the resort at Nassau an der Lahn. He later worked as a spa physician at Ilmenau, Kreischa and Bad Oeynhausen, received the title Sanitätsrat in 1896, and died in Kassel. In 1885 he gave the first description of a dysmyelinating disorder of the central nervous system that came to be called Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease, a name shared with the neuropathologist Ludwig Merzbacher.
