J. R. Worsley (1923 to 2003) was a British acupuncturist credited with bringing European five element acupuncture, also called classical acupuncture, to the West. The origins of Chinese Wuxing medicine lie in a Taoist and Chinese folk religious background, which distinguishes it from the more widely known Confucian style of modernised traditional Chinese medicine. Worsley lived for many years in the United Kingdom, where he opened the College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, which trained many leading five element practitioners. He and his wife later started the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture in Miami Lakes, Florida. This entry is historical and is not medical advice.
