Li Ching-Yuen

Traditional and Historical Medicine Practitioners

Li Ching-Yuen, also written Li Ching-Yun, was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor who died on 6 May 1933 in Kai County, Sichuan. He is known for a claim of extreme longevity: his year of birth was alleged to be 1677, though his true age has never been determined, and gerontologists consider the claims a myth. He worked as a herbalist, selling herbs such as lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shou wu and gotu kola, and his reputed long life was attributed to a diet of these herbs and rice wine. He is recorded here as a traditional herbal practitioner and not as a medical authority.
