Franz Schuh was an Austrian surgeon and physician, born on 17 October 1804 in Scheibbs in Lower Austria according to the New German Biography, and died in Vienna on 22 December 1865. After his training he was called as professor of the preparatory sciences for surgery to the Lyceum in Salzburg, and in 1837 he was recalled to Vienna as head surgeon of the General Hospital, where he took charge of one of its three surgical departments. In 1842 he took over the Second Surgical University Clinic, which he directed until his death. The older Austrian biography gives Ybbs rather than Scheibbs as his birthplace, so the place of birth is recorded with that disagreement noted.
