Henry Augustus Morton Whitby was a British cancer researcher, surgeon and urologist, born on 24 September 1898 and living until 1969. He is best remembered for inventing an electrical machine that he claimed could detect cancer. He built the device on the Micro-Dynameter designed by Francis Cutler Ellis. Medical experts dismissed the machine as quackery, so his place in the record rests on a disputed diagnostic claim rather than an accepted clinical advance. This entry describes what was claimed and how it was received, and is not medical advice.
