Antônio Carlos Magalhães

Generalist and Primary Care Physicians

Antônio Carlos Magalhães, known by his initials ACM, was a Brazilian physician who became better known as a businessman and politician. Born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1927, he studied medicine and, while still a student, worked as a reporter and took early posts in public administration. He later sat as a state and federal deputy, served as mayor of Salvador, governed Bahia, and held seats in the Senate, building a political machine that shaped his state and national media. He helped found the Liberal Front Party and was Minister of Communications from 1985 to 1990. He died in 2007. His place in this atlas rests on his medical training, not on any clinical record.
