Hakim Abdul Aziz (1855 to 1911) was a prominent Unani physician in British India, born into a family of Kashmiri migrants and regarded as the founder of the Lucknow tradition in Unani medicine. He started practising medicine in 1877, and in 1902 he founded the Takmil al Tibb School at Lucknow for research and excellence in Unani medicine. His approach was that of a puritan: he wished to systematise instruction at the Lucknow Madrasa around the texts of Ibn Sina, supplemented by practical instruction, unlike practitioners such as Hakim Ajmal Khan who advocated incorporating concepts from other medical systems, so the Delhi and Lucknow schools evolved in different directions. This entry records what was held and done and is not medical advice.
