Jean-Louis Touraine is a French physician and professor of medicine, born in 1945, who is also known as a politician. He teaches in the department of organ transplantation and immunology at Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 and practises part time at the Edouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon. His research in the 1970s centred on immunodeficiency, including some of the first bone marrow and fetal thymus transplants, with a particular interest in newborn children, and he later worked on gene therapies for HIV and AIDS tested in a mouse carrying a human immune system, and on cancer. He has presided over France Transplant since 1995. From 2007 to 2022 he sat in the National Assembly for a Lyon constituency. Nothing here is medical advice.
