Lorenz Christoph Mizler von Kolof (1711 to 1778), also known in Poland as Wawrzyniec Mitzler de Kolof, was a German physician, historian, printer, mathematician and composer. Born in Heidenheim in Middle Franconia, he studied theology at Leipzig, where he knew Johann Sebastian Bach, and later law and medicine at Wittenberg, taking a doctorate of medicine at Erfurt in 1747. He lectured on music history at Leipzig, then settled in Poland in 1743, moving to Warsaw in 1747, where he practised medicine and became court physician to King August III. With the Zaluski Library he published Poland's first scientific periodicals, and he was ennobled in 1768.
