Paul Rostock (1892 to 1956) was a German physician, official and university professor. He was a full professor, held a medical doctorate and served as medical superintendent of the surgical clinic of the University of Berlin. During the Second World War he became chief of the Office for Medical Science and Research under Karl Brandt, the Third Reich commissioner for health. After the war he was tried as a war criminal at the Doctors' Trial for his complicity in medical atrocities carried out on concentration camp prisoners, and he was acquitted. He appears in the record of surgery and medical administration as an example of how academic surgeons were drawn into the organization of wartime medical research under National Socialism. He died in 1956.
