Jérôme André Cahuzac, born on 19 June 1952, is a French surgeon who later entered politics. As a member of the Socialist Party he sat in the National Assembly for the third constituency of Lot-et-Garonne from 1997 to 2002 and again from 2007 to 2012, and from 2012 to 2013 he served as Minister of the Budget in the Ministry of the Economy and Finance under President François Hollande. He resigned from the ministry and was expelled from his party during what became known as the Cahuzac affair, in which he was accused of, and then convicted of, tax fraud. His entry belongs in the record of medicine as a trained surgeon whose later public career ended in a well-known legal and political scandal.
