Johns Hopkins Hospital

Johns Hopkins Hospital is the teaching hospital and biomedical research facility of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, and part of the wider Johns Hopkins Medicine health system, occupying roughly twenty of the sixty buildings on the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus with more than a thousand beds and about thirty thousand staff, including over one thousand seven hundred physicians. It also houses the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, serving patients from birth to age twenty one. The hospital was established through philanthropist Johns Hopkins's bequest of more than seven million dollars, the largest in the nation at the time, incorporating in 1867 and opening its doors in 1889, and it pioneered numerous medical specialties, including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, and child psychiatry, ranking first nationally by U.S. News and World Report for twenty one consecutive years between 1991 and 2010.
