Toronto General Hospital is a major teaching hospital in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the flagship campus of the University Health Network, specializing in organ transplantation and cardiac care alongside research and medical education for the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Its origins trace to a military facility from 1812, permanently established as York General Hospital in 1829, and it now operates roughly four hundred and seventy beds while treating tens of thousands of emergency patients a year.
